Cat 5e network cables (Category 5, enhanced) go along the same lines as basic Cat5 network cables. The difference between the two is that Cat 5e network cables fulfill higher standards of data transmission. While Cat 5 network cables are common in existing cabling systems, Category 5e network cables have almost entirely replaced Cat 5 in new installations.

Able to handle data transfer at 1000 Mbps, Category 5e network cables are suitable for Gigabit Ethernet. Cat 5e network cables also experience near-end crosstalk (NEXT) at much lower levels than Cat 5.
