It's essential to have the right fiber optic cables and accessories for your fiber network installation project. Whether you're a professional contractor or an ambitious DIYer, you can find the optical fiber cables and related parts you need at Cables.com.

Why Choose Fiber Optic Cable?

The best network cable for you will depend on the extent of your data network connection, as well as what you want from it. Though Category 6 ethernet remain the industry standard for data networks, fiber optic connections are on the rise. While a broadband wifi network operates by transmitting data packets into electromagnetic waves, a fiber optic connection relies on pulses of light traveling along delicate, hair-fine glass "fiber" cables. You can expect speeds between approximately 3 to 1000 Mbps from network patch cables, but fiber optic internet will blow those speeds out of the water: with a fiber optic connection, you can expect data transfers at a rate of up to 100 Gbps.

Fiber Optic Cables at Cables.com

There are two different types of fiber optic cords - multi mode fiber, and single mode fiber - and Cables.com carries them both. What are the key differences, and which should you choose?

The biggest draw of single mode fiber optic cable is that it offers near-unlimited bandwidth. We offer a variety of configurations, including APC (Angled Physical Contact) Single mode Cables and Single mode LC to SC 8/125 micron cables made with the highest quality Corning glass fiber strand at their core. These hair-fine glass cores are contained within standard yellow PVC jackets, some of which are riser-rated, and they're factory tested for optimum performance.

Multi-mode fiber optic cables have a larger core than singlemode cables, and light can travel through them in various paths. These can’t carry signals as far as single mode fiber with its near-infinite bandwidth can, so they’re usually used to connect computer networks to each other.

Our OM3 Fiber Optic Multi Mode Cables feature an aqua 50/125 riser-rated jacket and are fully compatible with both OM2 and OM4 fiber. With high quality duplex connectors on either end, these network cables are rated for transmitting signal up to 300 meters. You can find our OM3 Fiber Optic Cables in a variety of connector configurations including LC to LC, LC to SC, LC to ST, and ST to ST.
